Beauty Review: L'Oreal Elnett Satin Very Volume Hairspray

Since getting my fringe cut in a few weeks back, I've been having to use hairspray to hold it together and make sure it doesn't go stringy (which is never a good look). I had a can of L'Oreal Elnett Very Volume hairspray that I'd bought randomly as an emergency hairspray/tights fixer - you laugh, but it does work to stop them laddering - so decided to use that up before buying another one as part of my drive to use up my toiletries. And I have to say I'm impressed.

Elnett has been around for decades and has always been one of those products that doesn't rely on flashy packaging to make it sell, which is one reason why it can often be overlooked - there is something about the bottle image that can make it look a bit dated - but the contents inside are absolutely worth the money. There are lots of different versions but I went for the Very Volume one, which as the name suggests is designed to add volume to hair - great for me, as my hair often goes a bit flat a day or so after I've washed it and I need something to give it more body.

In those terms, this works really, really well, as my hair felt much more plumped up when I used the hairspray, especially my 'second day' hair. I also really liked the fact that it didn't give me helmet hair. Even though the style held up through a full eight hours in my sweatbox of an office, it still had lots of movement but wasn't crispy either, which is something I really hate in a hairspray - that feeling when you reach up and you can feel the hair crackling under your fingers *shudders*. Finally, the fact it's so fine means that it lasts a while - I used my (albeit handbag size) can most days since I came back to the UK, and every day in the month since I got my fringe cut in, and it only ran out earlier this week. So I'm very impressed by that!

Overall, I really like this product - it holds well but doesn't make your hair 'clump' as some hairsprays can, and the fact that it's a fine mist rather than just a spray really helps with the feeling that it's not weighing your hair down. There is a reason why this is a beauty classic and it's definitely something I'll be buying again when my current hairspray runs out.

If you haven't already tried Elnett Very Volume, it's available at Boots and Superdrug and costs from £2.39 for the 75ml handbag size can all the way up to £6.60 for the 400ml - an absolute bargain.

Have you used Very Volume or any of the other Elnett hairsprays? What's your favourite hairspray? And which classic beauty products do you love? Let me know in the comments and have a great day!
