Beauty Review: Soap & Glory Clean On Me Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel

What with saving up for our wedding and to buy a house, I'm always looking for ways I can save money. And sometimes, that comes in the form of a bigger outlay to get the best value. It was certainly the case with today's review - Soap and Glory Clean On Me Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel.

This was actually a present from my mum at Christmas 2011 (yes, that is how ridiculously large my stash is) so I didn't buy it myself, but I'd definitely do so when I eventually run out of shower gel. Read on to find out why...

First of all, look at the size of that bottle! It's massive - a whole 500ml of it. Considering most shower gels, even the fancy ones, are half that you're definitely getting plenty of bang for your buck. Also, the packaging is brilliant. I've written before about how much I love Soap and Glory's packaging, mainly because it includes two of my favourite things - vintage photography and terrible puns - and Clean On Me has both of those aplenty. I also really like the pump top so I can measure the right amount of product to use, as well as the fact it locks which reduces the 'is this going to explode all over everything?' fear. Not that I'd advise taking this travelling though, it's way too heavy and bulky for that - unless you decant it or have ridiculously strong back/arm muscles.

Sidenote: does anyone else who owns this shower gel have an uncontrollable urge to break into singing Bill Withers whenever they see it? No? Just me? OK then...

In the bottle, it's kind of a pale cream colour and has an almost milky texture, but once mixed with water it lathers up brilliantly - like the clouds of bubbles you see Marilyn Monroe's bath filled with in old films. I normally use two pumps as that's enough to get a nice lather and not feel stingy, but as I'm getting to the bottom of the bottle it's more like three just to get the right amount. It also smells fantastic once it's lathered up, with that classic Soap and Glory fresh yet soft floral scent.

The bottle does say it has a built-in body lotion, but I personally find I need something over the top after using this product. That might be because I have a tendency to dry skin on my arms and legs though - if your skin is more normal than dry, you might not need a body lotion as well.

Overall, I'm a big fan of Clean On Me. It lasts for ages - I started this bottle last September and am only just finishing it now - it smells beautiful and has gorgeous yet practical packaging. The one flaw for me is that it isn't quite as moisturising as I'd hoped, but I think that's just down to my skin type more than anything else. If you're prepared to use a body lotion with this product on occasion, then I'd definitely recommend it.

If you fancy picking up a bottle of Clean On Me it's available at Boots at the cost of £6 for a 500ml bottle - or £2.50 for the 75ml travel version.
