#2014BloggerChallenge: Summer Bucket List

A slight variation on my goals post this month - today it's a summer bucket list for the 2014 Blogger Challenge. I have to admit this is very much a learning-themed post as I have a lot of new skills I want to try and pick up this summer, but I'm also planning some fun things too!

Improve my photographyI've mentioned before how writing is like a muscle that you have to exercise to keep in tune, but I think photography - and improving your photographs - is too. I'm trying to take lots more pictures and be brave enough to put some of them on Instagram, as well as trying to use editing tools as well. I came so late to the Picmonkey party but now I genuinely don't know what I did without it, so am hoping that my pictures will improve over the next few weeks as I get more practice.

Learn to sew
I don't know what it is, but recently it's like a switch has flipped in my head and given me the urge to learn to sew. My plan is to start by doing a couple of small projects like changing the buttons on a coat and a couple of things from the front of Mollie Makes, and then if I'm still keen on it I'm hoping to invest in a sewing machine and a copy of Tilly Walnes' book Love at First Stitch, as I loved it when I flipped through the other day.

Learn to drive
There has been a bit of hoo-ha with my driving license lately, but I am hopefully going to start taking driving lessons soon. This is a bit of a longer-term goal than the summer - originally I wanted to pass my test by Christmas but now I'm hoping to do it by next spring when we go to Cornwall so we don't have to bother with the train. However, if I can make a start on it in the next few weeks before it's too dark to go out after work then hopefully I'll have a good foundation.

Go on two day trips - one in London, one outside
My Day Tripper posts are some of my favourites to write, but I haven't done many lately so I want to try and do a couple over the summer, especially as I have some holiday to use up so Nick and I are planning to take some time off work together. I've got quite a few ideas of where I'd like to go but would love any suggestions so if there's anywhere you think I should visit (within reasonable travelling distance of London) then please let me know!

I don't know what it is, but recently my reading has totally dropped off a cliff. I think it's a combination of not getting the bus after work as much and the blog becoming a bigger part of my life, so I've got into a really bad habit of blogging until late and then just falling into bed because I'm so tired then waking up and being straight back to blogging. So my goal for the summer is to read at least one chapter a night before bed, one on every bus journey and one every morning at weekends.

Wish me luck! Do you have any goals for the summer?

  2. I'm always aiming to improve my photography, I totally agree that it's just as important to practice it as well your writing! I just turned 17, so I'm legally allowed to drive but I'm a bit nervy about beginning to learn to, so I might hold off for a bit! Good luck, though! My reading went really down hill last month, but I'm aiming to sort that out this month - I really hope you achieve everything on your summer bucket list. Your blog is lovely! :)

    1. Hi Jess, thanks for your comment! So pleased you like the blog :) I'll be posting another update here in about a month so make sure you look out for that.

I always love your photos so you're definitely doing something right there!

Agree with you about being nervous about driving - I remember when I first started I felt really scared about being in charge of a potentially lethal vehicle and it made me quite a nervous driver. This is my second attempt though and I feel a bit more confident so hopefully it'll work out OK...
