Salon Review: The Painted Lady

Since coming back from travelling almost two years ago, I must admit I've been a bit of a tart when it comes to hairdressers; my previous hairdresser moved back to Australia right before we went away and ever since I've been trying to find someone to replace her. Don't get me wrong, I've never had a bad haircut down here, but equally I've never found somewhere that was utterly, completely perfect. However, when I was hunting for a new hairdresser, I came across Jane Kitsch's review of The Painted Lady and it sounded right up my street, so I decided to give it a go.

Inside, the salon is full of the most amazingly wonderful kitschy vintage decor - think china ducks on the brick wall (in fact, a lot of china animals everywhere), mismatched furniture from beautifully patterned cupboards to pastel-painted chairs, and even a stuffed fox wearing a jaunty neckerchief 'snoozing' by the basins!

Isn't that teacup just so lovely?

My stylist was Pier and together we chatted about what I wanted to do - I really liked that he gave me a mirror to look into whilst he was talking me through how he was going to cut my hair at the back, and that he gave me lots of suggestions for how we could make the style I wanted (essentially keeping my previous blunt cut) work with my hair texture and thickness as well as my lifestyle. He also made me feel really relaxed and at ease, talking me through each stage of what he was doing but equally leaving me to read my book whilst he cut my hair.

Obligatory sitting in the chair shot...

... and the finished look! Must admit I really like the big curls; there's something about them that's a bit Taylor Swift-esque.

Overall I really liked The Painted Lady - so much in fact that I've already booked my next trip there! It's a really nice relaxed yet intimate atmosphere with a lovely touch of quirk, friendly and enthusiastic staff and just a great experience, which is exactly what I look for in a hairdresser. I think I might have found The One...

  2. The Painted Lady is a very good salon especially for the Orangetree services. This is really a good place to get treatments from, the place itself is really good and clean, worth spending money for.
