Tresemme Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creating Sea Foam

Before I went backpacking, I never curled my hair - it was always straightened within an inch of its life - but, as straighteners and a hair dryer seemed like pointless extra bulk, I left them behind for eight months and let my hair air dry. Cue epic waves, which looked fine when my hair was longer but don't always work since I've had it cut (it tends to go into a bit of a 70s flick if it's left to do its own thing). That said, I'm trying to embrace the curls a bit more, and so when I got a free sample of Tresemme Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creating Sea Foam, I figured I'd see what happened...

The Perfectly (un)Done range is designed to create effortless, natural looking waves or to enhance those already there. As well as the foam, the range also includes a shampoo, conditioner, sea salt spray and hairspray. It contains sea kelp extract which penetrates the hair shaft to create waves in each strand of hair.

The bottle is very in keeping with the rest of Tresemme's salon-inspired packaging - the sleek black and simple silver writing along with the red lid and accents make it look cool and glamorous, without looking out of place on a shelf in the hairdressers, The product is dispensed through a pump with a wavy design, which looks very distinctive and is in keeping with its wave-creating claims. It also has a nice if fairly non-offensive scent, in a sort of 'green' watery way but without smelling too much of the sea, and dissolves quite quickly in the hands once rubbed together.

For those with naturally wavy hair, the product can be used in two ways - either scrunched in and left to air dry, or evenly applied throughout the hair and blow-dried. Obviously in the interest of thorough research, I had to try both methods. Apologies now for the terrible no-make-up photos...

With it scrunched in and air-dryed, as you can see, it definitely enhances the natural wave in my hair. I'm not entirely sure I like it - it all seems to have gone a bit 'spaniel's ears' which I'm not too keen on on myself, especially with my shorter hair. However, if your hair is a similar texture and you're after that kind of just-stepped-out-of-the-sea look, then this could be the product for you. It also held up really well and didn't drop out all day, but equally didn't feel too crispy or weighed down.

When I blow-dried my hair after using the product (three pumps each time), however, I found that it made my hair go a bit triangular and, whilst it curled under at the front, it also flicked out at the back - so essentially no curl added at all, which was hugely disappointing. Again though, it held up well all day without dropping and didn't add any weight to the hair.

Overall, I wasn't massively wowed by this product. I think if you're someone who likes beachy waves and has naturally wavy hair then this could help to enhance them, but that's not a look I really go for so in this instance it's not for me. If you fancy trying it though it's currently on offer at Superdrug for £2.73 (usually £5.49).

Have you tried any of Tresemme's Perfectly (un)Done range? What's your favourite product to use when you want to create waves?
